Credit Recovery Instructor (Summer School) 2021-2022

Hiring Goal 

Hire 2 teachers (one for RHS and one for RVHS) to guide students through their credit recovery courses, giving instruction when necessary to fill gaps in learning.  

Minimum qualifications 

  • Hold a current TSPC license for teaching or other licensure from TSPC 
  • Background experience or training in growth mindset 
  • A commitment to continuous professional growth
  • A commitment to utilizing technology in the classroom
  • A commitment to professional collaboration
  • A commitment to building and maintaining relationships with at risk youth
  • A high level of knowledge, skills, and expertise related to curriculum and instruction in the area of meeting the needs of all students
  • A strong willingness to meet students where they are, help them to develop lasting relationships, and guide them toward a successful high school readiness path
  • A proficient teaching practice
  • Endorsement in Math, Science, English, or Social Studies
  • Leadership skills and abilities
  • Strong technical skills (Odysseyware, spreadsheets, chromebooks, Google Meets)
  • Success in maintaining organizational systems
  • Available, sometimes on-site, mostly remotely, from June 20th-August 19th (tentative schedule below.)

Responsibilities 

  • Assist coordinator in monitoring student progress and course completions
  • Facilitate virtual instruction via Google Meets. Dates TBD, tentative schedule below.
  • Teach on site three weeks of summer school in August. See details below. 
  • Work with coordinator to engage students both virtually for the predominance of the summer and in person during the three week summer school program.
  • Maintain consistent communication with students and coordinator throughout the summer of 2022.
  • Organize consistent office hours to meet with students about their progress, clearly communicate expectations, and maintain records on office hour attendance.
  • Utilization of Chromebooks in instruction and virtual meets.
  • Aid in the assignment of courses, informational resources, and support for students using Odysseyware recover credits
  • Grade and facilitate lessons in Odysseyware for students
  • Assist coordinator and potentially other teachers with the instructional portion of their day

Summer School Program Overview 

  • What is the goal? To monitor and support credit deficient students by providing virtual and in-person instruction to the students of both high schools throughout the summer. To ensure the success of all students, many of whom have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 these past school years. 
  • Who is involved? Ideally 2 high school teachers with multiple endorsements, in addition to the program coordinator.  More teachers may be added depending on enrollment.

Schedule 

  • Teachers, counselors, the coordinator and school administration will help with recruiting, enrollment, and engagement into this program.
  • Required schedule for teacher duties will be: 
    • Recruitment of students Planning 
      • 2 days x 2 hours of after school team planning in spring
    • Extended Online Summer School (Monday through Thursday) June 20th - August 19th
      • One hour of online availability each week, plus check ins with coordinator
    • In - Person Summer School (Monday through Thursday) 
      • August 1st - August 18th
      • 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. divided up between teacher and coordinator
    • Student follow up 
      • Team debrief in August
      • Follow up on gift cards
  • Extended Online Summer School will be self paced by the student, with set weekly office hours occurring sometime Monday through Thursday. This will run until August 18th, when the onsite component ends.
  • In - Person Summer School will begin on August 1st and run until August 18th. This portion of the program will run four days a week (M-Th) from 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m depending on your site.  These days may be split by the teachers.
  • Students will start each day at 8:00 a.m. Teachers may also be responsible for a half hour of supervision before class begins: (7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.) A schedule will be determined by the team and shared with administration.
  • Teachers will collaborate with the coordinator and administration to organize any schedule conflicts prior to the start of the program. All schedule changes must also be communicated with students prior to the start of the program.

Structure 

One high school teacher will work at each site, in conjunction with a district coordinator, with credit deficient students. Teachers will work in a co-­teaching environment to guide students through our district's Odysseyware curriculum to earn credits where students are behind. Students have the opportunity to earn credits if they are deficient in the following subjects: Mathematics, Science, English / Language Arts, Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, Electives, and CTE / Second Language. Teachers will also work with students to develop future-ready thinking including the use of technology, growth mindset, and future planning. All students will have access to an electronic device and teachers will utilize the technology as a tool for the course. Teachers will incorporate the growth mindset structure into their lessons and values. Teachers will work with groups of 30­-60 students and work together to facilitate learning experiences for students during the course of the summer of 2022. 

Salary range 

$3500 (before taxes) payable in August for certified employees only
